Villainess, Fix The Damn Plot! [A Cultivation Isekai Adventure]

This has to be one of my favorite new fictions from my favorite new author. Do not sleep on her because this is just amazing. The characterization is great, the setting is impeccable and the way that the system is put is just the best thing I could imagine. There can be no better chicken related fiction than this one. There should be others, but this is the best.

So grammatically this is perfect! It's absolutely like. Looks like it's been through three editors already and it's like absolutely too ready for production. It is close to being a better than a trad Pub novel in just grammar alone. Stylistically it's got to go to third person close with a system that makes sense and more importantly is hilarious and I'm going to be honest here. As far as story and character goes, this is a problematic. A deeply problematic fiction for me because of how good it is. It's hard for me to put down. So I end up reading and reading when I have other things to do and look I have a life. I have kids.

Basically, if you like casual farmer or any comedic author in our space, you will love this work and the fact that the writer took this long to come out of her shell just hurts me.

This ticked pretty much all the boxes for me:

Witty and humorous dialogue and story? Check.

Entertaining Female Lead? Check.

A fun take on subverting the usual Xianxia and Cultivation tropes? Check.

Solidly developing revenge plot? Check.

Cute cats? Not Check but the chicken’s amusing enough that it gets a pass here.

There are some minor grammar and style issues, but those are so minor they’re barely worth mentioning. I only do so so that I can honestly say this is an objective and fair review. The only other potential criticism I might have is that the glossary at the end of each chapter feels a bit extra, so I skipped over actually reading it every time. But that’s a preference thing. There’s definitely an argument to be made that if a term is relevant to the story, it should be explained in narrative or understandable by context, not defined out of the narrative. 

However, such decisions are more of a style choice and having a glossary is perfectly valid. The author’s approach here allows for those familiar with xianxia tropes to read largely unbothered by explanations of what qi and other common genre features are, while providing xianxia genre newbies a good introduction. 

All around, this story is well done and I’ll be following it with joy and amusement. 

This just hits me just right. It is written quite well, and it is funny. I am a serious person and my sense of humor is different from most, but it has that sense of camp that works. It has style and charm. It takes the xianxia tropes and flips it on its head. Dramatic and yet flipping quickly to comedy with skill is tough to get right, but this works. The random cut aways (ala the chicken) are limited, so I was able to read it without breaks. Also, very good idea to include the foot notes with the names; saves me the hassle of guessing the Hanzi. I still don't get why 玄武 is supposedly sleepy, but hope we get the Four Heavenly Kings later on.

On a serious note, this book is entertaining in a non-serious way. I cannot say it is written to be utterly compelling with its storytelling, but it is humorous in a way that unironically makes you laugh. So if you (the reader) are getting into this for the first time, I'd recommend a cup of coffee and to put away your literary textbooks, you borin' ol' snob you. Thanks for the chapters, author.

And yes, I'm the reddit person. None of you will get that. 

A really nice and refreshing flair on the villainous genre - not driven by revenge for betrayed love or unfaithful family... but a chicken. And who wouldn't be fried with rage about that! 

With a more than satisfying confidence, we see Su Yan Li start to navigate her new reality like the almost-immortal boss she is. 

A very promising debut! 

As the title suggests, this book is a gem to read. Overall highly enjoyable, and much better than most books Ive seen here. 
Style / grammar

written in a light hearted fun way. No grammar or spelling mistakes that I’ve seen yet, and it flows very easily. 
Story

We’re still in the early stages, but it’s been a wild ride so far. I couldn’t have predicted we’d end up here at the beginning of the story, and I would have a hard time predicting where we’ll go next. Despite this, it has seemed consistent and continuous, which is very positive. I do have some concerns about the future. The protagonist is supposed to be world hopping from one story to the next, but I grow concerned that we’ll grow too bogged down in this world, and either leave the premise behind or have to give up everything the mc has built and all the relationships. Too early to tell, and I’m not taking points off. Also, seemed to imply that mc couldn’t cultivate to get stronger, just absorb soul fragments, which would be unusual. Wow, this segment is long.

Character

this is the only place I took a star off. I’m actually really enjoying the mc and her personality / life approach, but the supporting cast seems a little shallow. Mostly what I’m talking about is the (extremely minor) romance aspect, which came a little out of left field for me. But even besides that, the demonic cultivator guy seems a little split between bewildered himbo and trying to be intimidating kindergartner, with not much in between. The two in universe “mc” characters are shallow as well, but we’ve seen them less. I suppose I could justify it with the idea that they are in a bad novel so they should be shallow characters, but I hope we’ll move towards revealing any depths later.

If you've ever wondered how a thousand years of disciplined cultivation could be undone by one plump, oblivious chicken, System 666: Villainess Edition has your answer. And it’s absolutely hilarious.

Su Lan Yi's misadventures had me cackling from the first “BAWK” to the final burst-from-the-coffin scene. The humor is sharp, the satire spot-on, and the protagonist? Peak chaotic energy. One moment she’s reaching immortality, the next she’s facing divine lightning, poultry sabotage, and a sarcastic System determined to ruin her day.

The writing is witty without feeling forced, and the world-building sneaks in clever nods to cultivation tropes. Watching Su Lan Yi navigate her “two-star” villainess fate while roasting both the plot and its ridiculous male lead is a delight. Bonus points for the System's running commentary, equal parts unhelpful and hysterical.

If you enjoy cultivation chaos, salty protagonists, and absurdity at its finest, this one’s a must-read. Su Lan Yi might not have reached immortality, but she’s absolutely ascended to icon status in my heart.  Cannot wait for more! BOKBOKBOK! 💀🐔
