The first milestone has been reached!
You can check out the list of novels that have reached this milestone here
If you missed the first milestone as an author, you can still win the challenge by reaching a total of 55,555 words by May 5th.
To learn more about the challenge, keep reading this blog post.
The Writathon Challenge:
This is a personal challenge first and foremost. The challenge is to write and publish 55,555 words in 5 weeks (by the 5th of May), if you manage to do that, you win.
We hope that you aim to form healthy writing habits; we also encourage you to participate in discussions with other community members in the forum where you can leave your words of encouragement, frustration, or challenge to your fellow participants!
Rules:
-
You can submit a new story or you can continue an old one, but the 55,555 words have to be completed in a single-story, not across multiple stories.
-
For the duration of the challenge, the chapters posted to the story cannot include any sexual content.
-
The story can't be AI-generated. The story can't be an AI-assisted translation. The idea is that you personally need to write 55,555 words.
-
You can only participate with a word count written during the challenge period.
-
You can only participate with an original fiction. The story cannot be a fanfiction.
First Milestone:
Write at least 25,000 words by the 15th of April to qualify for the announced participants' list.
The list will be announced to everyone, and it will show the fictions that are seriously participating in the challenge to make it easier for readers to find those stories.
This is a personal challenge, to remove the competitive element to it the names on the list will be randomly listed.
Second Milestone:
Finish writing 55,555 words before the end of the 5th of May.
If you complete this milestone by the deadline, you will count as a winner of this challenge (even if you didn’t make it in time for the first Milestone)!
Rewards:
All winners will receive 1-month of Author Premium (this can be used or gifted to another user per request).
All winners will receive an Achievement unique to the Writathon worth 5000 level EXP!
Time zone:
The challenge follows the IDLW timezone, which is the last timezone on Earth. This means that as long as the date is still the 5th somewhere around the world, the challenge will continue! Note that you can check a localized deadline based on your timezone in the Writathon Tab
What's new:
We’ve got some exciting new changes to the dashboard for the challenge, so let’s walk through them together.
First, head over to the Writathon tab in your Author Dashboard and click it. Then, click the Participate tab, this will bring up our new Writathon main page.
Check the rules to confirm your eligibility, then click the blue Participate button on the right-hand side (or at the bottom of the page on mobile).
On the next page, you’ll see a dropdown menu where you can select the fiction you wish to enter.
Once you’ve made your selection, you’ll be greeted by our Congratulations screen.
You can confirm your participation by checking for a progress bar on this page or in your sidebar.
Here’s what your new progress page will look like:
This page displays your stats in a clear, easy-to-read format, including:
-
Words Written
-
Days Completed
-
Current Streak
-
Words to Win
-
Estimated Days to Win
-

For new or ongoing novels: all chapters published in April will count toward the Writathon, regardless of when you click Participate.
Here’s where it gets interesting:
If you’re entering a fiction with content that shouldn’t count toward the Writathon, you can control what’s included in the word counts.
That’s why this screen is important; it allows you to exclude any chapters that shouldn’t count toward the Writathon, such as those written before the challenge (your backlog) or unrelated content.
At the bottom of the screen, you’ll find your Dock. Here, you can select the fiction you want to review and click the Edit icon on the far right.
Excluding chapters adds their word count to your Pre-Writathon Word Count, ensuring that only new content written and published during the Writathon counts toward your goal.
To illustrate, in the example below, I’ve excluded three chapters, and you can clearly see the three new chapters that count toward the total.
The right-hand statistics here show:

Share Feature
Also in your Dock, you’ll find a handy Share button. As the contest progresses, this tool allows you to download progress snapshots to share with friends, to create hype for your story, or save for your personal collection.
Remember, the challenge operates on an honor-based system, as long as you uphold its spirit, you may tailor it to your specific needs. For example, if you find the challenge too easy and wish to write 55,555 words in just five days, you are free to do so, but the reward will not change.
Or, if you maintain a backlog (advance chapters not available on plotgenre.com) and intend to release them while concurrently building a new backlog, then that's allowed. However, you must remain true to the spirit of the challenge, meaning you must publish at least 55,555 words and write 55,555 for the same story, even if the content published and written is not the same but for future chapters. We provided the new tools to give you options on how you can participate in this challenge.
Also, please add [participant in the plotgenre.com Writathon challenge] in the description of your story.
